If you google “Is Donald Trump the antichrist?” you will find plenty of web pages suggesting that he is, and I’m not going to go into their kind of depth here, because such questions generally lead to “Yes, he is!” or “No, he isn’t!” I prefer to take the line of “how is the individual mirroring the collective and vice versa?” since that invites inquiry rather than yes/no debate, and we all know, at least I think we all know, how tempting polarization is these days.
I write about 666 elsewhere, and for a brief recap, we can say that 666 is a tyrannical state of consciousness that is so strongly embodied in some human beings that it is tempting to call such people “The antichrist” and though some literalists like to play it that way, it is more interesting to consider 666 consciousness as the selfish, narcissistic, domineering state of consciousness that we are all prone to have visit our minds from time to time.
One could say that a male dominated, oppressive, unjust society is a 666 society. In the early days of the last century, people immigrating to America heard the streets of the cities were paved with gold, which is a feature of the New Jerusalem in the Chapter 21 of the Book of Revelation.
Apocalyptic thoughts about the End Times also say that things are often not what they seem, as in false prophets or the antichrist, who some see as a Christ, a liberator, a savior. It’s in keeping with apocalyptic wisdom that a land whose streets were alleged to be paved with gold would begin to unveil its shadowed 666 consciousness – the global tyrant that lives alongside the ideals of democracy.
While I think that we all have a moral obligation to keep Mr. Trump away from nuclear codes, and like many people I have found the current election drama depressing, I think there’s some opportunity here to also up our game as individual citizens, to evolve further out of 666 consciousness and into something more empathetic and truly democratic.
